Significance of 18 May 2008 PDF Print E-mail

Heh heh!

Just checked out at the MOM Website below:

http://www.mom.gov.sg/publish/momportal/en/general/2008_Public_Holidays.html

Coincidentally, 19 May 2008 is actually Vesak Day! Which means, the day after my wedding is a public holiday! Yippee!

Everything seems premeditated; Sunday 18 May is our AD, followed by a PH on Monday so that my guests have ample time to rest for work on Tuesday. Earlier, Wei Siang and I were still deliberating if Sunday was a good day for us to throw a banquet. Apparently, I observed that guests seem to have the tendency to leave earlier before the banquet is officially over. Since Monday is already a PH for all, I think I won't need to hear any reasons from everyone who needs to leave earlier (Note: You have been warned. *sinister laughter*~)

Kudos to Xiushi for the reminder! In fact, I won't even know that 19 May 2008 was a PH if she had not notified me about it!

Actually, my desired wedding date was on 21 June. However, another close sister of mine, Wanping had also intended to throw her wedding banquet on the same day! It's already sad enough that we might not be able to attend each other's wedding (supposedly brides are not supposed to attend one another's wedding 3 months before and after her own AD). We have a lot of common friends, and I don't wish for anyone to miss the 'once in a lifetime' ceremonies for me and Wanping, so I made the choice of bringing forward the AD to 18 May 2008.

As a Buddhist, I am happy that Vesak Day falls directly after my Big Day. Somehow I feel very blessed. =) Sorry for harbouring such silly thought, but I had chosen the date without realizing it. So I hope my marriage life ahead will be a smooth sailing and happy one (cos I have the blessings of the Buddhas!) Hee hee hee!

I do have my reservations though:

(1) Will my invited guests make use of the opportunity that it's a long weekend for a getaway overseas? *Praying hard*

(2) I had selected Vanda Ballroom as it could house up to 30 tables. For the main ballroom, you need at least 40 tables to meet the eligibility. Wei Siang and I had initially assumed that we could negotiate the wedding coordinate for MM to convert our ballroom to the main one if it has not been taken up on the 18th. Now that it has become a hot date, I guess we can just forget about it. Sigh.

(3) As a devout, I will usually make it a point to attend the Vesak Day Celebrations each year. Now that my AD wedding has been planned on the 18th, I probably have to miss it next year.

Anyway, for those BRBs who plan to wed in 2008, do feel free to use the PH for 2008 as a guide!

My Convocation on 27 July PDF Print E-mail
Written by Shu Jun
Monday, 30 July 2007

Hiya everyone!

Attended the 2nd most important event of my life (That is besides my impending wedding lah, haha!)

Was looking so forward to my graduation; all my time and effort during the past 2 years have finally paid off!! I have decided to post this on the wedding wedsite as I wish to express my heart-felt gratitude to Wei Siang for all his support, tutoring (yes, he actually coached me on tackling my past year papers and tutorial questions!), and for accompanying me in mugging for my examinations!

You see, I am really lousy in my chemistry, and most of my coursework requires chemistry solving. Wei Siang had to spend most of his time off on weekends teaching me how to do mole concept, deriving equations, and help me complete a lot of past year questions!! In fact, he took leave before my examinations to accompany me during those boring days and nights studying in NTU canteen... sob sob!

Our favourite pose!

When I am feeling low and demoralized while preparing for the examination, he never fails to cheer and motivate me throughout my darkest days. Without his constant support and encouragement, I think I would not have made it. =)

Here are some of my favourite photos which I captured with Wei Siang on my convocation:

Thank you, Laogong!

You can find more of my favourite shots in "My Gallery". =) Really happy and relieved that I can achieve my dreams with Wei Siang by my side. I know I can always count on him for support. Thanks again, Wei Siang.

My Wedding Wedsite got hacked!! Oh No! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Shu Jun
Sunday, 29 July 2007

This is real bad ... I got a rude shock earlier when I popped by the wedsite, with the intention of posting some articles. The wedsite was hijacked; apparently by a female hacker called Turkish Ruby! Duh! I almost fainted. All my pictures, articles, stories, wedding details.... all gone! Sheesh! A few days back, our general website: www.kopicat.net was also hacked. Wei Siang had reminded me time and again to back up the wedding wedsite but I actually forgotten how to do so! *Got chided umpteen times from him as a result! He had taught me earlier how to do so but I took him lightly, now it's retribution for me.... sob!

Luckily, the hacker was kind enough not to delete the important files, and as such, Wei Siang managed to get the site up and running within 15 mins! I tried to backup the website, but I can't seem to save the archived backup file as there is a trojan threat embedded in one of the files. Gosh!

Wei Siang was totally pissed off by all these hacking! He sounded irritated and distracted while guiding me on backing up the wedsite, and blew his top when I told him the possibility of the Trojan infiltrating one of our files. I don't blame him for scolding me; he had spent lots of time and effort in building up both websites from scratch, and I can't seem to help him out at all. Even a simple task of backing up the wedsite seemed like a chore for me.

I'm actually looking forward to September; that's when Wei Siang and I will be involved in the wedding fittings and other wedding preparations. And now with all the hackings and abuse to my wedsite, I am really worried I can't share my wedding chronicles with all of you through this channel. I am really very upset. Keeping my fingers crossed that Wei Siang will find a remedy soon; I really don't want to see this wedsite go!

(BTW, in case you are wondering, the right top-hand corner of the wedsite is a sketch of Wei Siang and I in our wedding gowns! Did some scribbing the last time round; but it turned out to be rather awful! I can't be looking that thin! Hahaha! Probably I will upload an actual wedding shot after the photography in December. I'm praying the wedsite will still remain unscathed by then, *ormituofo*!

I'm Finally Back !! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Shu Jun
Saturday, 21 July 2007

I'm finally back after a 3 weeks hiatus! Oh dear, just saw Stella's query at my shoutbox on why I havent posted any new messages ?? Apparently, I have been rather tied up with work lately, esp. when 2 colleagues within my dept have left us in July... Plus all the intensive dragonboat training have left me rather drained, you know !?!? I don't even have time to look through the bridal magazines which I have borrowed from the library a month ago... hmm.. so sad. Decided to borrow those bridal magazines cos it's USA based; I recalled scanning through the magazines a few days back and saw that some of their models which they featured are big-sized brides (so quite appropriate for me lah!) hahaha! I don't know if I am biased or what, somehow the fabrics looked heavy and the design seemed quite plain. It can't seem to accentuate the model's figure (she is quite voluptuous and rather curvy despite her large frame). I'm secretly hoping that my designer can do a good job for me lah, esp. when I have big flabby arms and a heavy bottom despite weeks of sweat out (heh, not really that active though).

Anyway, I just met up with my buddy Cai this afternoon, and she commented that my arms looked more toned, plus my waist seemed smaller! Hahaha! I think it attributed to my hard work at dragonboating! You know, rowing a boat seems easy, but the actual challenge actually lies in twisting your waist and dropping your shoulder to maneuver the paddle with the rowing arm (which requires considerable effort from both hands rather than 1). My competition's on 4 August, so I'm pretty excited about it! Probably will post my competition photos either at the wedding gallery or the kopicat blog, will keep you babes in the loop once it's uploaded ok?

In the meantime, do stay tuned to my other entries on wedding reflections soon ok? Promise I will explore new topics for reflections and discussion. Sorry for digressing in this blog entry, seems that it's more on the sport rather than on my wedding prep! Hee hee!

My Weight Loss Regime PDF Print E-mail
Written by Shu Jun
Monday, 25 June 2007

I have decided to put on hold our usual wedding discussion and focus on my weight loss plan this week!

Actually, I have purchased the newly released wedding and travel magazine at Kinos on Sat and was looking forward to reading it. However, I am too bushed flipping through it after a long, arduous Gym workout. So now it's still lying on my table unwrapped heh heh.

Anyway, I have made plans to document my weight loss plan on the wedsite, so that I can stay focused and see progress (I hope!) along the way, haha!

Hmm, as I will be taking the wedding photos in Dec this year, I hope to shake off at least 10 Kg just in time to look good for the photo shoot! I have been cutting back on suppers, high carb food by adopting the exercise and calorie deficiency weight loss plan.

The weight loss program actually sounds simple: You need to create a calorie deficit of 500kcals/day to lose 0.5-1 Kg per week. This is made possible by cutting back on calories, exercising, or both. In this way, you make progressive weight loss by ensuring body fat is lost instead of muscle and water.

I have started off by jogging at least twice a week with Weisiang (each jog approx 30-40 mins) and 2 gym sessions per week. I have also been going for dragonboating once every 2 weeks. So far, the progress has been good, and I have lost about 3 Kg since May. Will definitely keep up the good work.

In the meantime, I have also signed up for the Passion Run and the Shape Run. I was quite a bit pensive about signing up for the Shape Run esp. since it's my 1st attempt at the 10KM. But I have decided to go ahead, as it will be a good test of my willpower, and at the same time, motivate myself to continue exercising so that I can be fit enough to challenge myself for the long distance run.

For those ladies who are also keen in joining me for the run, do sign up at www.shape.com.sg! There's a fabulous runners kit worth $870 for those who complete the run! That includes a Nike Sweat Tee!
