After several months of anticipation, our families finally met up for a food tasting session at Marina Mandarin on Monday! Wei Siang and I had been feeling jittery days before the dinner date, for the fact that his parents' have yet to meet up with my parents for a formal dinner session since we started dating 10 years ago! When we started dating, I was only 17! Furthermore, my parents weren't very happy with us way back then, as we were supposed to schooling rather than going into a boy-girl relationship! Hee hee! I was still feeling worried that our parents may not click well with one another; as it was afterall, their 1st meeting. I guess my fear was unfounded for, as they were happily conversing with one another even before the 1st dish was served! Subsequently, my future mother-in-law brought up the topic on the bride-price to my parents. I was touched when my dad commented that the bride-price didn't matter to him; so long as I have found someone who could take care for me for life! Afterall, I am my daddy's precious girl! Oh no, I think I am going to miss my parents dearly after my wedding! Sigh. During the dinner session, our wedding coordinator Wendy passed us some wedding favour samples for our guests on our wedding day. There were 2 new wedding favours to choose from; which were a glass coaster and silver coloured picture frame. We were undecided on the choice of wedding favour, as the glass coaster looked plain and didn't seem attractive to us at first sight. Moreover, the sharp edges of the square coaster might accidentally cut young guests if mishandled. We didn't really like the metal picture frame too. We also gave up the choice of giving edible wedding favours to guests i.e. pineapple tarts and heart-shaped chocolates.. Here's 2 of the Wedding Favours! Overall, we were very pleased with our wedding menu, and were satisfied with the food course. One special mention was the sharks fin, as it came along with a lot of fish maw and scallops! Slurp! Another food item was the smoked tea duck which was highly complimented by our parents. =) However, there were mixed opinions on the choice of deserts, as my parents preferred the yam with Ginko Nuts rather than our initial choice of mango sago with ice-cream. We are still in the process of confirming the dessert menu with the Hotel.... so I will keep the final choice confidential for the time being! =)

I finally confirmed my "brothers" for my big day. They are Soon Hock, Soo Horng, Jian Fa and Guo Sheng. They will be my "Big 4" for my Big Day! I am so glad when the 4 of them said they can make it, phew.... so relieved, and I am lucky that it did not clash with Soo Horng's Sydney trips. I must apologize for ppl whom I did not choose, it's not that you are not important in my life, just that I can only choose 4, hope u can understand lah... so the only thing that I need from you is to enjoy the banquet on 3rd of May... yep... Let's see whether Shu Jun will disclose her list here... she got so many good friends.. haizz... i think she's having a headache on her ideal "sisters" nomination....

Forgot to pen this into my blog entry... We have finally chosen our Justice of Peace to preside during our solemnisation ceremony - Mr Chan Kai Yau! Actually, we didn't have any idea as to selecting the right JP for our ceremony, as there was a long list to choose from the ROM Website. As usual, we decided to source for information online via the Singaporebrides website for good JP recommendations. From the website, I found that Mr Chan's name had been mentioned numerous times in the 'good JP recommendations' threads. We were unclear on why he was so popular as JP for many couples, as he didn't sound extraodinary during my teleconversation with him. In fact, he spoke with a deep, firm tone and merely asked for my wedding ad and timing though I thought I was conversing with him in a visibly friendly tone. I have pulled out an extract on the recommendation made by a fellow Singaporebride Gerlaine on Mr Chan as a good JP below: Yeap he is quite serious actually but do carry a sense of humour in his speech...friends and parents were impressed. And most importantly, i feel Chinese vows are more meaningful too! Me and my hubby nearly teared during the vows. So can really consider.
Mr Chan is one of the few JPs who bother to meet up with couples to sign the agreement letter and to talk to couples about marriage and all. Me and hubby felt very appreciative of a nice gesture like this.
Of course, there were also some negative comments by other Singaporebrides about Mr Chan being forgetful and for being unavailable to preside their ROM though they have made earlier reservations. Nonetheless, I am still putting my bet on Mr Chan's professionalism, and hoping that he will create a memorable occasion during our ceremony. Furthermore, I have colleagues and JC classmates who also engaged Mr Chan as their JP, and commented that he was wonderful! ~

We are going to change our wedding ballroom! Err, i know it's a bit late to talk about changing ballrooms, as we are just 1 month plus away from our wedding date. But it's also coincidentally that the Grand Ballroom is still available on our AD! As such, our wedding coordinator offered the option of changing the ballroom for us; but on condition that we must reserve 28 + 2 tables for the transfer to be approved by the Management. On our side, we were not concerned with meeting the criteria for the tables, as our intention was to go for 20 plus tables for our friends and relatives. What we were concerned however, was the initial ambience for the cocktail reception. As the atrium lounge was located directly below the Vanda Ballroom, we wanted to tap on the live performance at the lounge area to create an ambience during cocktail. However, the down-side was that the Vanda Ballroom was small, and there was another issue with the low ceiling. To re-affirm our stance on selecting the Grand Ballroom, we re-visited both ballrooms and found that the Grand Ballroom was much better in its ballroom layout, and had a longer march-in for us (hee hee, it's a once in a lifetime match afterall). Let's hope that we made a right choice, and that our guests will enjoy the ballroom for its spacious layout. =)

Hiaz, I wanted to prepare a hand-made present for Wei Siang as a surprise gift during our wedding day, but cannot be helped la, I can't keep surprises under cover. Furthermore, we have been spending most of our time with each other hence it's difficult for him not to know that I have been buying the handicraft items and frame from Spotlight for the scrapbooking project. It was difficult for me to start off with scrapbooking; afterall it was my first attempt at it. To gather some inspirations for my project, I decided to check out a scrapbooking store at Plaza Singapura (can't remember the name of the store); and I was pleasantly surprised with a lot of masterpieces displayed at the store! There were 1st time mums making scrapbooks on their newly-borns; and couples keeping memories of their dates and holiday trips in the form of scrapbooking for their loved ones. Just a note of caution; scrapbooking is an extremely addictive activity, and you really need to damage some 'brainjuice' for conjuring a nice layout. Most importantly, it's expensive! Unless you are making more than 1 pages for your scrapbook so you can buy the materials for more quantities and spread out the cost for each page. For e.g, a box of assorted ribbons cost approximately 7 bucks whilst a box of buttons about 10 bucks. Imagine I had to spend about 20 bucks for the frame! As I am not a creative person by nature, I had to do some research on my own and got some ideas to complete my scrapbook frame. First and foremost, I had to make sure I complete my 2 cats cross-stitch just in time for assembly! In fact, it took me a year + to finish the cross-stitch as I had been continuing and halting my mini project during this while. I decided to throw in a photo of us during convocation and did some hand-make cutting and pasting works. However, I made a mistake with the framing, cos I forgot to take into account the width and length of the frame, and the sides of my 'masterpiece' was obstructed! You would need to peek through the sides of the frame to have a better view of the entire scrapbooking image. Sigh, otherwise everything would have been perfect! Blame it on my carelessness. My Handmade Masterpiece for Wei Siang! Close-up of my Cross-stitch! Yellow Cat represents me and the Brown's Wei Siang! Fortunately, Wei Siang loved my artwork! He thought it was beautiful! Now, it's sitting proudly on the TV console, and goes well with the furniture as it's black! Now, I am inspired to come up with a scrapbook on my honeymoon trip to Taiwan! Hope I have the patience to complete it. (Footnote: It took me 4 hours to complete the scrapbook framing!)
